Into the Web: A Melanie Martinez "Spider Web" Tribute

When Elisa reached out to us, she had a very special request: her daughter was actually part of Melanie Martinez’s "Spider Web" music video, and she wanted a custom set that captured the eerie, magical essence of that experience. We knew we had to go beyond a standard tribute to create something as unique as her daughter's connection to the video.

The Consultation: Capturing a Cinematic Moment

The goal was to weave together the dark, whimsical world of PORTALS with personal memories from the set. Elisa gave our artists full creative control to "work their magic" while highlighting a few key elements that were non-negotiable for this special gift.

• The "Spider Web" Aesthetic: We leaned into the intricate, spindly visuals of the music video, ensuring the entire set felt like it belonged in Melanie’s otherworldly universe.

• Personal Portraits: To make this set truly one-of-a-kind, we included two hand-painted portraits of Elisa’s daughter from her time on set.

• Melanie Martinez as the Creature: We couldn't forget the star herself, incorporating a portrait of Melanie in her iconic moth-like creature form.

The Transformation: Hand-Painted Surrealism

To bring this vision to life, our artists utilized Complex Scenery techniques to ensure every detail was as sharp as a spider’s thread.

• 3D Eye Details: We utilized 3D textures to make the eyes on the set truly "pop," giving them a realistic, haunting depth that follows you as you move.

• The Glow of the Web: In a nod to the magical elements of the video, we incorporated glow-in-the-dark detailing into the white spider webs, ensuring the set looks just as stunning in the dark as it does in the light.

• Moth Wing Textures: We utilized a muted pink and purple palette with fine-line black detailing to mimic the delicate, dusty texture of moth wings.

• Easter Eggs: Look closely and you’ll find subtle nods to the video’s theme, including a digital clock set to "2:22".
