For this custom 10-piece commission, we pulled inspiration from Azulejos—the iconic, hand-painted tin-glazed ceramic tilework that defines Mediterranean architecture. This collection beautifully captures the historic charm of old-world pottery, balancing classic coastal iconography with stunningly textured artisan finishes.

The Consultation: Ceramic Canvases & Coastal Neutrals

The blueprint for this set relies on replicating the clean, geometric feel of real ceramic tiles while incorporating soft, natural beach elements. We selected a Short Square canvas, providing the perfect blocky foundation to mimic individual wall tiles.

• The Porcelain & Pottery Palette: The color story is anchored by crisp porcelain white, deep cobalt blue, and soft cornflower blues that imitate classic pottery glazes.

• Sandy Shore Accents: To break up the monochromatic blues, we introduced a warm, sandy nude base for select nails, grounding the nautical theme with an organic, earthy feel.

The Craft: Fine-Line Delftware & Raised Glaze Textures

Bringing the delicate look of hand-painted earthenware to life required a meticulous fine-line sketching technique and specialized dimensional gel layering.

• The Hand-Sketched Tile Cells: Using an ultra-fine detail brush and deep cobalt ink, our artists meticulously painted classic Mediterranean motifs. The crisp white center nails feature a realistic coastal fish, a branch of ripening lemons, a sailboat gliding across cross-hatched waves, and a beautifully detailed historic archway.

• The Swirling Glaze Illusion: As showcased in the process video, the cornflower blue nails feature hand-piped white swirls. These elegant patterns are layered to mimic the traditional clay-firing process, giving the design an authentic, hand-carved look.

• Gilded Beach treasures: Over the sandy nude bases, we added premium metallic gold detailing. One nail holds a brilliant textured gold foil starfish, while another features an opulent, gold-framed cobalt gem complete with a delicate central micro-pearl.

• High-Gloss Ceramic Shine: The entire collection is sealed under an ultra-thick, glass-like topcoat. This replicates the high-shine finish of kiln-fired glazed tiles, adding beautiful reflection and depth to every painted line.
