The Hunter Exam: A Custom Hunter x Hunter Narrative Set
Do you have what it takes to pass the exam? For this custom 11-piece commission, we went straight back to the foundational arc that started it all: the grueling and dangerous Hunter Exam from Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter. This collection acts as a chronological checklist of the exam's most formidable contenders, unforgettable obstacles, and classic symbols.
The Consultation: Bold Cel-Shading & Graphic Icons
The blueprint for this set was rooted in absolute anime accuracy, focusing on the highly expressive characters and numerical branding of the first season.
-
The Extra Short Square Silhouette: We selected a clean, short round shape. This mimics the look of vintage collectors' pins or individual animation badges, providing a uniform, tightly composed surface for face portraiture.
-
The Exam Color Story: A vibrant, earth-toned palette consisting of forest greens, hunter oranges, deep blacks, and clean creams that reflect the rugged wilderness and tournament arenas of the exam grounds.
The Craft: Micro-Expressions & Tournament Badges
Bringing the early days of Gon's journey to life required absolute line precision and an understanding of classic anime cel-shading.
-
The Finalists Lineup: Using a microscopic fine-liner brush, we painted hyper-accurate portraits of the key players. Look closely to see the wide-eyed optimism of Gon Freecss, the cold glare of Illumi (disguised as Gittarackur), the chilling pale gaze of Killua Zoldyck, and the battle-worn fatigue of Hanzo. We even included the calculating smirk of the Chimera Ant arc's Meruem as a special flash-forward nod.
-
Iconic Badges & Graphic Branding: Interspersed between the portraits are the most recognizable symbols from the arc. We meticulously hand-painted Hisoka's infamous #44 applicant badge, the bold red diamond of the Hunter Association Logo, and the checkered tile patterns of the Phase 3 Trick Tower walls.
-
The Trick Tower Obstacles: To honor the deadly challenges, we hand-drawn the striking yellow-and-black target patterns of the Numere Wetlands' hidden creatures and the grid patterns of the arena floors.
-
High-Gloss Finish: The entire collection is sealed under a glass-like glossy top layer, making the bold black ink outlines and saturated flat tones pop with maximum contrast.
A Finale for the True Fan
The final result is an incredibly detailed, nostalgic trip through one of shonen anime's greatest storylines. From the micro-painted character gazes to the flawlessly replicated tournament badges, every single millimeter of this collection was curated to show off your Nen.
