The Great Kings of the Past: A Custom Simba & Mufasa Set

"Remember who you are." For this custom 10-piece commission, titled "Simba and Mufasa," we journeyed to the Pride Lands to honor the generational bond between father and son from Disney’s The Lion King. This design translates iconic scenes from the animated classic against a night sky filled with starlight.

The Consultation: Midnight Skies & Starlit Accents

The layout balances key animation frames with a continuous, starry backdrop. We selected a Medium Almond shape to offer a soft, rounded silhouette that complements the organic forms of the Savannah landscapes.

• The Starlight Palette: The design is anchored by a deep midnight blue gradient base.

• Celestial Starbursts: The non-portrait nails are detailed with hand-painted silver stars and embedded rhinestones to represent the Great Kings of the Past watching from above.

The Craft: Cel Shading & Cloud Sculpting

Capturing the emotional weight of Disney's classic animation required precise fine-liner work and multi-layered color shading.

• Father & Son Portraits: The center nails feature hand-painted portraits of Mufasa and young Simba. One panel highlights Mufasa looking lovingly down as Simba sits atop his head, while the adjacent nail shows Simba looking back up at his father under the stars.

• The Paw Print in the Mud: One detailed nail depicts the poignant moment young Simba steps his small paw directly into Mufasa's large footprint.

• Mufasa in the Sky: A standalone nail recreates the majestic cloud apparition of Mufasa appearing in the night sky, rendered in soft blue swirling hues and misty white highlights.

• Glass Topcoat Finish: The entire set is sealed with a glossy layer to amplify the contrast between the midnight blue backgrounds, golden fur tones, and sparkling stars.
